Message text I've seen a lot of WSIM players making really bad moves recently -- stuff like sailing into rakes turn after turn, not retreating well, attacking larger ships with no hope of winning, grappling against much larger crews, colliding with friendly ships, etc. It's a complicated game with a lot more going on than just moving your ships around.
I'd be happy to help anyone learn how to play, but I would suggest all beginners read as much of the rules as they can, as well as the Newbie's Guide, which is under the WSIM section in the left column. It explains the basic ideas and tactics of the game. To prevent padding/hurting won/loss records, I'll draw the game when it's no longer teaching anything. Create any challenge game for me and learn while playing. Or click my name and email me and I'll set up a game. I'll answer questions, help with the rules and give you my opinion on tactics. Any other experienced players willing to do this should post a "me too" reply.
I suggest the "England vs France" or "Britannia at Gibraltar" scenarios because of the variety of ships in each scenario, but anything you want to try is fine. Simplified or Basic rules are fine too (Basic includes grappling, melee, capturing ships, and drifting).
