Message text Not all that many of the Tripes were made, and they were almost exclusively used by the Brit naval aviation squadrons. As others mentioned, the difficulty in doing maintenance work and the lack of sufficient spare parts / planes were really the more major drawbacks. A few double gunned versions were turned out but the added weight cut down on the planes performance, so that upgrade was shelved. Some pilots added their own custom struts and wiring to reinforce the wings.
The camel, amazingly enough, ended the war with most credited number of kills.
