The game is good but could be improved. My suggestions.
when you think about improvements for this site, always remember that this is a completely free of charge site that lives on work made in free time and for their fun by the web masters and with the technical costs partly covered by the players' annual donations. After this introduction here are some observation on your point:
1. Higher quality graphics for the games pieces.
You have to find the designs on which base these better graphics counter and you have to find copy right free designs. If you have any, forward them.
2. A choice of different colored planes when you choose your game piece.
This propose has been already presented several times, but it requires a lot of work, almost re-design the the gaming page and the game generation pages. Then you would have to debug them, and then it would make them heavier to run.
3. Multi-colored game board. The solid flat blue gets old after a while.
As per point two, you would have to redesign the routine handling the map. To use the "solid flat blue" hexes allows you give the routine just the size of the map, then the routine creates it, doing a distinction just between the border hexes and the standard hexes.
To have different maps you would need transparent hexes and the back grounds. At least one back ground for each map size. And this would always produce heavier programs.
4. The big one that players on this site have been clamoring for for years is the campaign option.
This is a nice thing that requires some work too.
The game is fun but hasn't changed much at all in years. It needs to be freshened up with new graphics, new looks, and some more playing options. I can tell the traffic is down on this site. It takes forever to get a league started. Several years back it didn't take as long. The squadron interest needs to be promoted more. More squadron events encouraging newer players to participate would help increase the number of active players.

It is not so exact that blue max hasn't improved. It had a lot of improvements. When I started you could not use the burst length. You had just three map sizes. The types of damage cheats you received were not secret (you was aware if you scored on wing, Fuselage, tail or engine), you hadn't have the "Area Placement" option, you hadn't the different quantities of fuel options, you hadn't had the auto-mover, you hadn't had leagues. And so on.
And all these things while, for their fun, the web masters put on-line Gonzaga and Wooden Ships and Iron Men.
For these reason I'm happy to have this site at this level.
