I think I have this right.
When a ship has been abadoned it has a white flag. When it has been struke through firepower or crew depletion it is flagged with white also. It is my understanding that abadoned ships can be recrewed while struck ships are out of play.
If this is true maybe they should be flagged differently to show what is still in play.
This is particularly important during boarding so that one does not waste time trying to board struck ships.
Bruce, The original WS&IM works differently than what we are playing here. In WS&IM the boardgame, no points are ever scored for abanoned ships - ie: if the only thing that has occured to a ship is the complete loss of crew, then the ship is still in play, it does not surrender and no points are awarded. Here, a ship without crew surrenders and gives points to the opponent EXCEPT in the case of an all OBP situation where the entire crew has moved to an enemy ship. Also, in the original, struck ships act as blocking objects for gunnery purposes, here they do not. There are other differences as well. In the original you do NOT surrender when your last gun has been eliminated, the ship is still in play until an enemy ship can fire a range 1 broadside.
Here, I do not believe you can capture a crewless ship. Only a friendly player may re-crew a crew-less ship; and I an not sure if that can happen - if so it is only on a fouling or grapple. And, here, once a ship surrenders by striking, fire-power, or immobility it can not be boarded and hence captured. |
