I do feel strongly about people playing the game in a league so they don't have points deducted and preventing others from getting that extra point that could mean that they win the league. I think that was the bone of contention between dcr66 and myself in that instance.
It isn't sporting and if you win the league in such circumstances I would go as far as saying that it is cheating.
I also agree that having a rule that penalises those with stuck rudders is unfair as they have no choice in the matter.
However I am almost of the mind that we have a Cowardice Board - where you find those players who ran away off the side of the board to either stop them from having points taken away in a league or to help them survive in a campaign. The other players in a game post the game reference and the players name so you can see the circumstances of the retirement.
Before joining a game you could then look at the board to see the calibre of person you are playing against. You then have the choice whether you play against them or not. If your ally cannot be trusted to stay on the board do you want them, and if your enemy runs away off the side of the board if they are not winning do you actually want to bother facing them?
I now use that choice when deciding to play against dcr66 or not.
