It's not Rugby. Football is fluid and constantly changing. If I were watching for tradition, i would watch baseball. That's the same game it's been for over 100 years. I prefer football because of it's constant change. That and it's a thinking man's game. One team had over 1000 different plays for offense. Couple that with dozens of formations, endless player combonations and 100's of defenses and you have a game that captures my attention. Even with a lesser talented team you can win with a better executed game plan. (See the Giants against the Patriots a couple years ago)
