In the original Blue Max, young whipper snappers like myself, without much experience, couldn't use the more advanced manoeuvres until we had managed to amass a certain number of experience points. However here, everyone is a skilled veteran, even in their first flight able to do Immelman's and the rest.
Now this thought I’ve had, may have hurt, but it also left me wondering whether it was possible for our wondrous smurfs to create games where the advanced manoeuvres were not available.
What’s the point I hear you cry.
Well the young Red Baron didn’t take on Veteran Pilots to get all of his victories, and let’s face it the life expectancy of a new pilot was measured in minutes not hours, days or weeks.
I think that it would be fun to have a flight of inexperienced Nieuport 17s or Spad VIIs fighting against a Red Baron. OR a single experienced pilot with a flight of muppets against one or two experienced enemies.
I have run campaigns using Blue Max for years where pilots start with no experience and as their flying improves then their skills develop – but here we get everything when we start.
Just a thought, what do you think?
Still crashing and burning,
