How does one go about becoming part of a squadron? I am highly interested.
Just like flying_neko said, squadrons are not part of the official YouPlayIt site. It is an addition to site that makes things more interesting. Go to this link managed by Lord Locquax to see more: http://www.chimpage.com/bluemax/wiki/
Most squadrons are looking for pilots in some way and you need to get their attention by doing some of these things: Play often. Squadron wants frequent players that move at least once a day per active games. -- Have more finished games and wins will show that you are committed to the site. DO NOT sign up for too many games, like 100+ unless you can keep up to it. 100 active games are a lot of work, 50 games or less is a better number. Play more games on smaller scenarios against experienced pilots. If you win (or do well) against them a few times, it shows that you have potential. You need to know how to handle the different types of planes in YouPlayIt Blue Max. All squadron games use the 10x8 map in Advanced Rules. Challenge the individual players of the squadron with challenge games. When you are playing these games, be reasonably talkative when you are talked to. Be prepared to be evaluated by the squadron(s) you asked to join.
This is just how I approached my current squadron months ago and how we evaluate new applicants. There is no hard and fast rule for it.

P.S. I see that you are playing against docmortand who is the newest member of the Hissing Cats. Why don't you ask him how he found us?
