The original game had a few varients that are not found here. However the basic aircraft are all here. What is missing is the lewis machine gun. In the original you could have a 2 gun neu17, a f2b with twin tail guns, and the se5a had a second gun that was a lewis instead of 2 regular.
The Lewis gun is not so much "missing" as it is misrepresented on this site. The S.E.5a, which should have one belt-fed gun and one Lewis gun, is instead implemented with two belt-fed guns. The Bristol F.2b which had either one or two Lewis guns for the observer is implemented as if it had one belt-fed gun.
The Nieuport 17 series included three major combat versions: Nieuport 17 was armed with a single Lewis gun. This version is not included in the Board Game or on this site. Nieuport 17c was armed with a single belt-fed gun. This version is identified in the Board Game and this site as the "Nieuport 17". Nieuport 17c.1 was armed with both a belt-fed gun and a Lewis gun. This is only mentioned in a footnote on the Aircraft Characteristics Chart in the Board Game (and then no identifier is provided).
The Bristol F.2b was described in the Board Game as having two Lewis guns for the observer. This was a late war (1918) version of the F.2b. The single Lewis gun armed F.2b was more common. |
