I diagree with some of the posts that have been made here. Statistics give a picture of performance, albeit, an incomplete one. Its also amusing to see someone throw into the mix, the discussion of "lopsided scenarios". Many have discussed this repeatedly in the past and here, yet we haven't heard the expert mention exactly which ones god considers "lopsided", from atop his mountain.
By the way, just how do we define lopsided? Does a scenario develop into a "lopsided" status because individuals playing it excel, or is it truly lopsided from the start? As such, I'm interested in someone providing a list of these and more importantly, how they fit the criteria of "lopsided".
Pros and cons can be made for both sides of most scenarios, in this mortal's opinion. Exploiting a plane's strengths versus an opponent plane's weaknesses, is part of the game. Would people be happier if we had only the Cobra challenge or camel to camel to choose from? I find those boring.
What started as a light hearted discussion, turns into an opportunity for someone to cry foul. Perhaps, it is because the offended party's buddies weren't on the list, or more so, they weren't on the list/not high enough on the list. So what do they do, they throw out a completely "backhanded compliment", seething with insincerity first sentence, and then let it rip. The intent of certain people's playing, along with with god's adjudication of "talent", is then revealed to the mere mortals.
Someone mentioned the Albatross DIII vs Snipe scenario. Here are the only two people flying the DIII, with a winning record on that scenario, that are due his respect. I suggest contacting them both and revealing your adoration.

There isn't a F2B vs SS DI scenario. And lastly, let people play what they want, when they want, and how they want. No one is forced to play a game, with a dagger at his/her back.

I thought the vast majority of posts were on the point of the topic, statistics. Not one was mean spirited before yours. I am sure you would prefer opinions to be voiced from the tops of mountains where you could not hear them, as your own are entirely sufficient to you. Really, what point is a forum if folks don't voice there opinions? I didn't want to do a lot of your research for you, but I spent two minutes.
WW1 Campaign (part 2) is an unbalanced scenario. The Bristol is 25 kills to death with the Albatros at +1 and the SSD1 at -19. I will explain why this would be a consideration on a stats related topic. The Bristol is likely to win an even amount of games. The best the Germans can do is 1 kill, while the Bristol can get 2. So the Bristol pilot will not hurt his win loss ratio, while doing much better on average score and kill to death ratio. To the credit of some of our better known pilots, they are listed only as German pilots. Bombadil is the dominator in the game with +4 in 5 games as the F2B, and +4 over 11 games as the Germans (don't know which plane he flew, but a fine record without the advantage of a lot of flights as the F2B). I am not suggesting that this type of scenario be removed. I think they are fun. I would love to see a league only stats collection for those who want to see stats unflavored by pilots who fly that scenario 17 times only as the F2B versus the SSD1 and Albatros DV.A.
As I took the time to answer your easily smashed soft ball question, I will also answer the really, really, tough question you asked. In my capacity as omniscient opinionator I declare that the players of this site would, like you, be bored to only have camel to camel or the Cobra challenge to choose from.
Thanks again to sbadranga for his fine work, and all those who have checked out the topic, even Templars. No hard feelings, just avoid leading with your chin. |
