Miniatures for "Wings of War" have been released: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/196350I got them at the Nexus Shop in Rome, yesterday. Of course they can be useful to Blue Max players too. All the best, Angiolillo
Hi Angiolillo,
I played Wings of War yesterday night at Oswald Boelcke's with your new miniatures. He has 12 (the full set?) and they're absolutely terrific! Great job, much better than I imagined looking at the pics posted on Boardgamegeek. But the bases.... We had serious problems during close dogfights with overlapping bases, for they're very thick and so often we had to play with the plane cards instead of the minis. Moreover, they have smooth sloped edges which proved to be rather unwieldy to grab.
I have a note about the maneuver cards too. I already felt in past WIW games that playing with the planes' cards makes me think of "too much turning on a coin", but as the planes cards are merely beautiful counters, this can be dealt easily with your imagination. Moreover, the cards can be easily overlapped during the game.
This isn't true so far for the minis, some of which you can see turning 360° on a coffee cup. Even the Spad XIII, which is a real rocket in BM, here looks like a sleepy glider. So what you have here is often a close bunch of mini planes which almost all the time crash together with their wings and rudders and overlap badly with their bases. My personal feeling is that the maneuver cards are just too small to play with the minis. I guess that increasing their size at 130%-150% could lessen this problem of encumberance.
And obviously, this is only my 2c. GG
