Right. But Venice is also Italian. That way he was Italin and went to an Italian prison. There were also several other countries in Italy at that time. The Papal State, Sicily, Tuscany, Romagna to name a few.
Wow, I don't know that Marco Polo is not an Italian  Well in our History books, we didn't say that much about Italy.
What we know is

3. Cuppicino tastes good.
4. Italy is famous on its defensive Type Soccer.
5. Girls (under 25) is hot in Italy
6. Mafia is Hot too.
7. Rome is the birth place of many Great Thinker in the world and their books effect the Western Europe for 2000 years and rest of the world for more then 500 years until now.
8. Marco Polo is the 1st claimed Italian in China, although I do think some have been travel to China before Marco, but he is the only one that can meet Gengis Khan.
