There have been a few WSIM tournaments, at least one individual one I can remember and one with teams of two or three (due to scenario limits).
One person would keep track of the games, assignments (who's English or French, etc), points, etc. I thought it was a lot of fun. Some teams even had "signal flags" -- a code they could send over the in-game chat to communicate secretly.
There have also been some team challenges more recently. There are no formal WSIM teams on the site, just groups playing against each other.
But yeah, I agree with Hubert about waiting until Electro has a handle on things. If the advanced rules ever go live, we should definitely christen them with a tournament!
I think it is a marvelous idea, especially on the WS&IM side. I enjoyed the past tournaments we have had!
As an aside, checkout the World Boardgaming Championships held every July in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania, USA. They play MANY of the old board games there, including Wooden Ships. (Mind you, the gentleman who runs the game has changed the rules to his liking; some of us are less than impressed by most of his work.) - Derek |
