I have studied a little of many many languages: English, Ancient Greek, French, Spanish, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Swahili, (Irish) Gaelic...
But, to be honest, what really makes me able to translate stuff from the internet, is a couple of secret weapons: Babelfish, and a huge collection of dictionaries!
I wouldn't really be able to say much more than "thank you" or the numbers, face-to-face.
