Same producer as "The Patriot" and "Independence Day," Both fantasy pieces with not much more history in the former than in the latter. Not a good sign.

That is all true, but, in my opinion, the real problem with films like "The Patriot" isn't the messed up history, it is the producers and actors like Mel Gibson actively claiming that the movie depicts history. "The Patriot" isn't a bad movie, it just isn't history.
there are so many film that claim to depict history or historical events...that is perhaps true since so few of them claim to ACCURATELY depict historical events
if Hollywood is to be believed it was the Americans who swept the North Atlantic of the Nazi submarines...Americans who won the Battle of Britain...Americans who won the battles for North Africa...and Americans alone who fought their way up the Italian penninsula and Americans alone who stormed the beaches in Normandy
i still love a good action film about the war...but i just dont believe it when they try to make me believe that it is based solely on historical events...knowing in general the historical events that they have played so loosely with
next we will have Michael Moore telling us what great people the Nazis really were and that Hitler and his crew were just misunderstood and needed love and understanding...in much the same vein that the CBC here in Canada managed to produce a documentary that painted the Allied flyers who daily risked their lives against the Nazis as little more than barbarian terrorist...it never fails to disgust me when i know of people who are determined to rewrite history to advance their own political agendas and ideas
my two cents for dispersal
