hm... interesting point. I think it is similar to SE5a situation. On Small scale we can see the better manuver can outperform other factors, but once it is in team play, this manuver defect can be overcome by teamwork. P.
General rule of thumb: high manouverability becomes less and less important as the number of planes involved in the dogfight increases.
Serious dancers, for instance, can almost match runners (Fokker DVII apart) in 1 vs. 1, since thanks to 180° turns they are never going to offer him the tail. But as the chance of having two enemy planes coming at you from opposite directions increases, all of your fancy turns become useless, while high speed moves become more and more important.
Ergo, in many vs. many dancers and even unescorted 2 seaters are just sitting ducks for good runners.
