Moving on from keeping your dignity when deciding to retire, what about dignity at the start of the game.
Is it right for pilots (most often Allied ones) to wander around doing 1 maneuvers while waiting for the Germans to run out of fuel?
Likewise is it fair to shoot down a player who you know has lost their engine or is out of fuel?
Is there any dignity there?
It all depends on the aircraft. If I'm flying a Tripe you bet I'm going to loop-de-loop until the germans get within 3 hexes - It's the only way to spend less than 2 fuel/turn! But I try to set up scenarios with slow planes on small maps so at best I'll "wander around" for two turns... And I (almost) never play smaller scenarios than 2 vs. 2, so it gets hard to circle the opponent as well.
I.e. I always try to make the cheapest maneuvers possible at the start of the game, no matter what aircraft I'm in. For runners that's usually speed 1 ahead, for dancers it means zig-zagging or flying in a circle, for slow boats like the Bristol it flank speed ahead - better to get in close fast and slow down there!
As for shooting down defenseless pilots, all I have to say is "Of course I kick 'em when they're down - it's easier to hit that way!" |
