As for the two scenario's suggested, it might be possible if you limited the game to the 8x8 map. But there isn't any way for the me to do that Not yet, but we will start working on that as soon as we will be finishing the current tasks.
I recall being against the score system, but it isn't my site. May be not, but your comments are always welcome here
Playing with some friends on the real board games there is no need for a scoring system, but playing online everyone is willing to keep track of his own progress. We know that the current score system is far from perfect, and we too are not too interested in personal score statistics, but I fear that a lot of players here shouldn't be too happy if we had no statistics at all.
I have noticed that there are a lot of people who never come back. And that is a shame. It is, but we can't be sure this is a scoring problem. There can be several different explanations for this behaviour:
The user doesn't like playing boardgames (he subscribed to try, then decided that this is not his kind of games) The user doesn't like to wait too long between one move and another (we created the site this way precisely for the opposite reason ) The user played a bit, then became tired to play the same game (this is normal. On the long run everyone need some rest after playing too much the same game )
Perhaps our hosts would be willing to set up tutorials with volunteer tutors that would help the newbies along. This is not too easy to do. There should be at least a volunteer online at any time, and this is a bit too much to ask to a volunteer Anyway if someone will volunteer to create a Flash tutorial for some other game as the one we created for Vampiring ( http://www.youplay.it/play/va_tutorial.asp ), we will be eternally grate to him
We are planning a slightly different approach to this problem, because we'd like to have in the end 2 kind of games: rated and unrated. Every new users will then begin to play in our site in "safe mode". He won't be allowed to create or subscribe rated games until he had be playing at least 5 unrated games (5 is only an example. The exact number is undecided yet).
This could give everyone several advantages: The new user won't be immediately hammered The "I'm just trying a couple of moves" user won't ruine anyone else rated game A new user will be stimulated to play at least 5 times, learning the game rules, so that he could finally be rated.
Doing this we could even think to have some unrated-only scenarios, and some veteran-only scenarios (where veteran are players who already played at least 5 games). This way for example the Voss! scenario could became a veteran-only, unrated-only, 8x8-only game. The scenario creator will be able (and requested ) to choose the right limits for his scenario.
Perhaps. As usual the problem is not about "if" but about "when". Let's begin subdivinding labour: we have to work on the site, and you have to wait (playing in the meantime if you want to )
