One of the great things about Ace of Aces, when it first came out, was the ability to toss a booklet at a friend and say "Page 178, let's go!", and play from the comfort of your chair!
I am the other 50% of the authors...
BD will have quite a lot of new rules, but the basic ones will be just the same. The optional ones will be both to be used singly (choose which ones you like) or in sections (adding Atltitude, Ground Fire, Balloons or whatever).
Ace of Aces has been a great example among the ones that inspired us. We wanted to do a game with the same (or almost) easiness in explaining and starting the game. Never tried to play it in more than 2 people. By the way, from that point of view its problem is even worse than the complain you are making about WoW: a WoW set allows 2-4 people to play (Burning Drachens 1-2) and more with home rules, a AoA set only two of them... But it was a great game indeed.
Bye!
