The idea of commitment level is good, but it would need to be something that the players did have to check off on when they enter the game-- if they don't check commitment level, then the system automatically gives them an "error message" until they do check it or stop trying to.
The reason I say this is you will often find someone posting "fast, online game" or even stronger language, like "do not sign up if you cannot finish this game now." And people will still sign up, make one move, and walk away for a week. If you can finally get their attention, they just say, "I did not see the note."
At that point, the "kick them off" idea sounds pretty good too, but I don't see that happening. Which is okay-- suppose you and your sweaty palms had a computer crash... or that you had games open on that trip to Spain. (Yeah, I know-- you would think ahead and try to finish or exit all the games before leaving--I've tried it too.)
Anyway, commitment level is a nice idea. Like you, I don't know how feasible it is, but I like it. |
