I am no great shakes as a pilot, but I have been enjoying flying the runners, especially the Spad XIII lately. One of the things I think you must do well in a Runner is anticipate where the other guy is going to be. It has helped me in thinking more clearly where the other pilot may end up. You can reach almost any location in front of your plane, so if you can just think of where best he would go, you can almost assurdly be able to fire at the spot.
I know this is not extremely helpful, but it seems my anticipation has grown more astute as I fly in the runners. So, try them out, and really think hard where your opponent might be, and you'll see you can almost always hit the spot, and not have to give up a shot in return.
My two bits!!
