I would invite you to give a reason why you have chosen your ID name....
I've been using my current nickname in various parts of the internet for something like 15 years now. It started when I went to pick a screen name for AOL Instant Messenger which I used to chat with various friends from school in the mid 90s.
I wanted to use "Black Knight", inspired by the extraordinarily campy film Ivanhoe from 1952 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044760/ ) which I had just seen in school (I think as part of a class discussion on the treatment of Jews in the middle ages, but I don't remember for sure). In the film, the title character, who had just returned to England from the Crusades, wins a jousting tournament anonymously, wearing a black suit of armor with no coat of arms. (Amusingly, in the book Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/82 ) from which the film was adapted, the Black Knight's identity is different!)
At the time, AOL had just started allowing 9-character names (up from 8), so "Black Knight" got compressed the more "L33T" form BlckKnght by dropping all the vowels. I try to spell it with proper capitalization, as otherwise the the repeated "k"s throw everyone off. |
