I'm in a game, the classic Uberplane against mediocre enemies (btw I like a lot this kind of games, because you need to cooperate with your inferior buddies in order to catch the superior enemy), with the also classic 12x10 large map.

You have my most sincere and deep respect. Those that take the weaker side in a scenario are the true knights of the air.

Thank, it's easy when you lose and it's only paper or bytes. I'd gladly take the uberplane in real life

After a few turns I've pointed to my (german) collegues that we should stay on the right side of the map because otherwise we would have seen our planes shot down when we finish the fuel.

This is actually not a violation of the etiquette but a violation of the rules! WWI airplanes had no radios, so in-game communication is strictly and forbidden in the rulebook!

This having been said, since you communicated a single general strategic advice, I would consider it only a minor violation. As Parker says, your apologies are certainly enough!

Done. I feel better now.

Hand signals and wing tips were used in WWI air combat as forms of communication. So yea you could us a primative form of communication and still in context of the time period.

I agree John - except that usually it meant follow me, look over there, climb and dive. More than that wasn't really possible and you would have to be in the same hex to see it.

In the game context a few words of advice prior to the game is fine, but after that really you are stretching the limits of belief to suggest communication was possible.

Once combat was started communication was inadvisable owing to the need to keep en eye on the enemy and not for random signals from someone who could be half a mile away horizontally and another half mile vertically.

So yes some basic messages were possible but as everyone else on the site doesn't pass messages during the game - either via email or using the in game message system - it is polite to do the same.

Apologies are always enough when something is done as an honest mistake so don't worry about it and don't do it again
