On big maps a slow manoeuvring plane will not catch a fast one. One those small maps one has to think not just do hit and run 
When you speak about air battles on small areas. Let's just imagine that one plane is defending something important (an observation balloon or something similar) and has strict orders not to leave his post. The battle would then be limited to a relatively small air space.  |
