In this game:
http://www.youplay.it/play/bm_GameMove.asp?GameID=623043My opponent has flown off the edge of the playing area (retired) without honour, yet still gets a point. I understand that this point is because the game awarded him "Best Player" from his side.
I'm not debating the rights and wrongs of his actions but I need a clarification of the rules.
I thought that if you retired without honour you received no points.
If I had retired rather than him - would I have therefore have won the game?
So having my engine shot off may not be a hindrance if I am far enough ahead I just fly off the board anywhere I like in multi-player league games.
You are incorrect on many counts. You DID win the game, and if you had retired without honor instead of him, you would have still won the game. However, your opponent's choice to leave the game without honor gave you an extra League point for the Strategic victory. If your opponent had retired with honor, your victory would only have been Tactical. If you had retired without honor instead of your opponent, the game win would still be yours but instead of 6 League points, you would have only scored 2 for the Draw.
Where did you get the thought that you receive no points if you retire without honor? Is there something written on the site that gave you that impression? If there is, it would be good to point out so that it can be corrected and avoid the confusion for yourself and others.
My assumption on points was based on the fact that in a single player game if you leave without honour then it is a 4 - 0 win for your opponent.
Therefore, if you leave a multi-player game why do you score any points?
Surely if leaving the board without honour results in zero points in one game it should be the same in all.
There has to be consistency in rules, so regardless of situation the same outcome is reached.
To be honest I play because I enjoy the games and statistics and points don't matter - what does matter is playing in the spirit of the game not playing the rules and those rules being consistent and apply to everyone in all situations.
Hence the request for a clarification.
And before anyone says anything - yes I know - why am I asking for clarification about scoring points in a league game if I'm not bothered? Fairness. I like games to be fair for all players. Some people may never write anything here but are upset that this has happened to them. By my airing the subject it allows a free exchange of information and an explanation to be offered to aid understanding.
So, despite the exception of 1v1 duels being exhaustively clarified in a recent thread, your basing an assumption off of the results of one? Really?
How can a computer program that bases scores off of results be "unfair"? Get past the honor stuff, and look at the results of the battle instead. It is much clearer that way.
