A "sunk" ship is not sunk at all, it is in the act of sinking. What the original rules say is that "ship is in such danger of sinking that it cannot be sailed or guns worked for the remainder of the game". So. the crew is busy trying to save the ship. This is why it still drifts, blocks movements, etc. |
