Can you believe the Nieuport 17's was considered the best fighter in the war??

By who? i've always seen the fokker dVII or ss dIV for germans and the snipe and spad XIII for allies.
These would be the best fighters at the end of the war. The early war had the Nieuport 17 as the marvel of technology and it lasted longer during WWI than most other planes.
The maneuver charts in Blue Max are the "Late War" when the Nieuport 17 becomes outmatched by newer designs.
Compare it to its "Early War" chart (with smaller distance per hex) and it looks better than almost all others.
early war would have to go with the albatros d.III with its better two gun fireing though prop arc vs n17 single overwing and/or one fireing though prop arc . the second gun rarely being on the n17.
