Then the Frenchy fired, causing the Pirate ship to surrender. This means, by the real WS&IM rules, that there will be no melee, as one of the participating ships has surrendered, and broadsides occur PRIOR to the boarding phase. Unfortunately, the "basic rules" herein have been programmed incorrectly, and so the melee occurs even though the OBP is originating from a surrendered ship. After the melee's three rounds are resolved, the unsuccessful OBP is sent back to its ship of origin. However, since the ship of origin has surrendered, the OBP has no home to return to, and through some stroke of genius they remain aboard the ship they attacked, your glorious Frenchy. Then, in the next turn, the computer shows the OBP as both active and on-board the Frenchy. Since the Frenchy (you) was not alerted to this and hence you did not set up any DBP, once the firing is over for the turn the computer then says to itself, "OH! Look, there is an OBP on board the Frenchy, and it is NOT being contested by a DBP." Hence your mighty SOL1 falls via melee to the crafty Somalian pirate, who you thought had been rendered useless through its surrender the turn prior.
All that does sound plausible, except that if it takes the previous turns boarding parties, the French player (myself) had a defense party as well as crew at the guns. |
