Yes, and one can argue that, and that's fine, I don't really care if they win or lose though I agree with you. But how can I, the one who did not surrender, LOSE!?

I have to agree that this is COMPETELY ludicrous and must be change. Surrender means loss for you, regardless of score, even if your coalition ends up winning despite of your "efforts."
And, vice versa, in a two player game, the player with ships still active gets a win if the other player surrenders and scores all the points from the surrendered ships.
