He may want to try a sledgehammer on that computer. Maybe even a machine gun. He is on automove in 1 of his leagues.

Can I just say that I hate (and in all the world this is the only thing I do hate, not just detest or despise) but I really, really hate windows updates.
After sorting out the security debacle I allowed my computer to update itself - what a mistake. Windows Service pack 3. Okay so I now have a machine that thinks it is a molusc. Withdraws into its shell and clings to the wrong information regardless of the threats and beatings you give it with said axe and sledgehammer.
My internet access is now at the whim of windows, so I may be here and gone again every now and then.
Sorry folks.
I suppose you are referring to WinXP Service Pack 3? That thing is a bit of beast. I have 1 desktop at home which after the upgrade cannot start Windows if any USB external disk is connected at boot up. So every time it needs to reboot my father will need to disconnect ALL USB external drives first.
With that in mind I keep my (and my wife) laptops on WinXP Sp2. My workstation at work is updated to SP3 but I'll strangle the system person at work if something happens.

BTW. I set it to notify me of the updates and let me pick and choose what I want. Even then I only update once a while I feel adventurous.
