Just a thought, but is there advice anywhere for new players to join a few 'instant matches' first, before adventuring into a league?
Leagues seem to be inhabited by more experienced players who have an idea of how it feels to be shot down more than once. A new player joining may get fed up with playing 15 games when he quickly dies in the first 6!
A suggestion or advice that leagues tend to have more experienced players in, and there is less opportunity for practice, learning or teaching may help newbies feel less intimidated by people who know how to fly.
Just a thought T
For new players to the site (not necessary to Blue Max or WSIM), here are my advices IMO: Do not join too many games. (less than 50 active total) Stay away from big games. You should try smaller games with no more than 4 players first. Faster action is better than drawn out games that takes days to get a turn. Stay with small map of no more than 10x8. (It is nothing worse than a rookie in a Fokker DrI on a 12x10 map against anything. You will be out of fuel while your opponent keep his/her distance.) If you want to join league, be prepared to get beaten badly. Click on the names of the players who have joined. If you see the majority with 1000+ wins or even close to 1000 wins; you may want to stay out unless you are really good. Seek out ksnake for some lessons. He is the best teacher among the English speaking players.
