I'm new here trying to get some experience so I can join some leagues, sadly getting an even fight in Camel V Camel seems almost impossible.

You have to hang around long enough in public/open games before many of the experienced players will accept your challenges. Experienced players like to play challenges that involves other experienced players. I don't usually have any problem getting even multi-player challenge games/leagues started with players like ksnake and scotireb.

What is it about experienced players that prevents them from playing anyone in a simple challenge game? They seem very precious and defensive - are they worried that a new player may be better than them?
If that's the case then whether I have 1 game played or 1000 games played I'll have the same problem as they will have still played that many more games than I.
It is a shame that it is the less experienced players that make new players welcome rather than those who have been here for the most time.
I have always ensured that those with experience and who are therefore more worldly wise greet and meet the new players at my wargame's club. This way an experienced player mentors new players and shows them the ropes.
Perhaps we are just considerate of those who wish to join but need some guidance.
