When being fired directly head on by an observer I noticed that I got tail hits. Does this version implement the rule:
If an aircraft is fired upon from directly to its front, all tail hits become engine hits. If it is fired upon from directly to its rear, all engine hits become tail hits.
The direct fire only comes into play when you are in the 6 o'clock position for the observer. For observers this means only a 2 or 3 space shot since the can't fire into the space directly behind the plane. You may be directly facing the plane from another position but that would mean that the observer could shoot your entire plane.
The death shot should always happen unless you have special damages, they are in the 1 space behind the observer, or your guns are jammed. I've played on this site for a couple years and haven't noticed anything funky with the observers.
Hmmm. That's not our interpretation of that rule, at least when I played it back in 1984. I don't know if the later versions clarified this.
Our reading of the rule was that it was to do with facing not deflection. If it was to follow the deflection rules then I would have thought that it would have mentioned the word "deflection".
Still, its nice to know how the rule is interpretted here.
