do my guns need one turn to unjam before I can get another shot in? YES
if I move into a position to shoot again on my turn, do my guns automatically jam and thus get no points? YES. And worse your enemy now knows that you have a jammed gun.
should I purposely break off to give my guns a chance to unjam, or continue to tail with my jammed guns (even if that means not making a straight manuever)? You can tail to see where you enemy may be going. This will help you figure which straight move you want to do to stay away from your enemy. In short, get your guns unjammed first.
