You are only penalized points if you retire from the three "non-home" sides of the board. Saltylog retired from his own side of the board, hence no penalty. As for why he did, only he can say for sure, but it is clear from the events box that it was without honor, which does not factor into the points or the win he scored from the game.


Thanks for the reply. It takes a while to get used to any game system and it is amazing sometime how easy it is to misunderstand what is right there in the rules in black and white. The line "Retiring with Honor is expecially useful in league games..." makes it a little confusing because if what you say is correct than "Retiring with honor" only means something in in league games. In an open game like this nothing prevents the player from scoring a few extra points and then fleeing for their side of the board and winning the game?
However, I still don't know why his guns were jammed but it did not show in the narrative. I know it does in some games, but apparently not all games.
