Having started playing blue max a number of years ago - I vaguely remember something about an expansion\extension which involved the aspect of height comming into play - in that planes could change height as well as orientation\acceleration. Does this enhancement exist or am I getting confused in my old age? and if it does exist has anyone played\used\been aware of these rules?

The 2nd Edition of Blue Max (Blue Box, 1989) included an Altitude rule with five altitude levels. The 3rd Edition (Miniatures Rules, Blue Folio, 1995) had the same five altitudes in the main rules, plus an Optional Rule for twenty-six levels of altitude. Our Blue Max group uses the 2nd Edition rules with the altitude rules (although with six levels, not five).
The Canvas Eagles variant has 9 altitude levels and plays fairly well. It would appear that the planned realease of Blue Max V3 will incorporate most of the Canvas Eagles mechanisms.
