I also feel the tendancy pointed out by Mr Godwin's Law shows a lack of depth in the general population for creative debate and writing. As soon as one's thin vein of ideas is mined, they slip into the "Nazi Argument". Once there, "heat" surpasses "light" in whatever debate is going on and the true debate fizzles out.
When anyone reaches the point where they are considering 'playing the Nazi Card', they need to pause and reflect that since they have run out of reasonable points to make, perhaps they've lost the debate. Either come up with some other points to make, or conceed defeat!
