I have given this much thought and though I can think of a few circumstances where I feel the rules could/might be exploited, I am inclined to stick with the same scoring system used in Squad Cup I.

The winning team is considered the team that:

1) Has more planes remaining on the game map when the game ends.

2) In case there are the same number of planes on the map, then the winning team will be the one who has shot down more planes when the game ends.

3) If the two teams are still tied after the first two winning criteria, then the game will be decided by adding the total points of each side. This is regardless of whether a kill in one instance was assisted by 1 or 2 other pilots. The scores will simply be tallied. Besides, assisted kills promotes a team concept.

I pondered long and hard on the first criteria because I can think of a situation, though unlikely, where a team could be winning on points and have one plane on the map versus two planes of the enemy when the game would end (all out of petrol). This would require some extreme even distribution of damage to the enemy but this can, and does happen. However, in most cases, firing opportunities usually will bring players down - especially when they have but 4 tail squares.

Also, the map size of 8 x 8 is set that small so that games will end sooner and be more deadly from almost the start. There may well be some player exits where rudder jams play a part - such is the nature of our little wargame here.

Using the players left on the map as the prime criteria, also prevents the use of players leaving early with a points lead (not that any of our fine people would do this). Though I could see a team behind on points with a two to one plane advantage, simply flying around avoiding trouble, these aren't Spad XIIIs here.

Any questions - simply post here.

Templars,

point (1) is encouraging to save fuel and to avoid the enemy, or to fly up to glide and to glide up to the game ends, which has no meaning in my opinion.

I would rather suggest the following :

  • team that scores more kills pass the turn

  • in case of draw, team that scores more points pass the turn

  • in case of further draw I would repeat the game.

    Clarifications:

  • players that leave the map are counted as killed unless they "retired with honour"

  • a plane shotdown by fire count as killed

  • a plane shotdown by more than one pilot count always as a single kill
