There is a limit already - either when the game ends or when you get your defenseless butt shot down.

Seriously, it is a pain in the butt to have jammed guns, but they jammed due to a tactical choice that the pilot made. That's a factor when deciding when to fire until the barrels are red hot and when to take medium bursts instead.
what i would much rather see is ammo boxes for each plane. you would use ammo every time you fired, how many boxes you use would depend on a short, medium or long burst. the possibility of jamming could still stay, just be less likely to occur or easier to correct.
