the plane should be shot down with all engine boxes checked. This won't be done because it's in direct contrast with the original boardgame rules.
Gliding: An aircraft which is out of fuel (or whose engine has been destroyed—see Damage) must glide. Only aircraft which must glide are allowed to glide. A player whose plane is gliding may choose only maneuvers number 2 or 9 during the maneuver selection step." ( http://youplay.it/play/bm_GameRulesFull.asp under "Fuel Expenditure" ) If I remember well, the author once said that these planes where excellent gliders, and this is the reason a destroyed engine doesn't means that the plane is immediately destroyed. On the other hand, a gliding plane will not glide too much, if any enemy pilot should understand the situation.
For the "zeroing fuel when the engine is gone" proposal, as I stated in another message, we will think about it.
