Then we'd have to add a "surrender" button, giving all the victors a share of the shot down points but no kills. (the plane would be captured, remeber "The Blue Max"?? ) Any enemy would then have a choice to get a kill anyway, with say a cowardly kill (and maybe a point penalty) (the observer was about to shoot!!!) or leave the defencelss plane to his own devices. The surrendered plane obviously won't make any more points nor shoot.
But this would make sense only in the campaign game...

PS: What about letting the honorably withdrawn pilots gather turn points for as long as their mates are on the map?
