Format
The tournament will be in a league format.
All of the games will be variations of 4 vs 4 games, with Advanced rules, Default Placement, on a Small 10 x 8 board. The games have already picked and will hopefully provide a good variety of aircraft and scenarios.
To ensure fairness, all teams will play each other twice in each scenario "home and away". The games will be specific passworded games created by myself every saturday night (2 games per week) once the tournament starts (so that access is available at the weekend and during weekdays for anyone who plays at work ). Please make sure that you sign up for the right game, on the right side otherwise the game will be declared void and a new one will be started. The password will be the same for all games and will be e-mailed to all squadron leaders.
As most squadrons have more than 4 members, it will be up to each squadron leader to select players for each match and ensure that their team register in time for the game. All fixtures will be published in advance to allow this.
Scoring
Scoring will be based solely on kills to keep things simple. One kill will be awarded for any plane shot down (only one kill where two planes have shot an aircraft down). One kill will also be awarded for a plane leaving the game board, even if this is forced by damage.
The most team kills wins the match. If kills are equal, the game is drawn. Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. Teams on the same points will be separated by "kill difference" like "goal difference" in football. If this is equal, then it goes down to highest kills etc as in football
Please see “Code of Conduct” section for additional scoring.
If a passworded game is deleted because a team has not been able to have its members subscribe to the game, (eg. one team all sign up, but only 3 pilots from the other one do) then the game will be forfeited by that team and the points will be awarded to the other team...but not kills. If neither team manage to subscribe in time then the game will be "postponed" and created again the following week.
Results -
Once a game is complete, the results should be e-mailed by the teams' squadron leaders to me at shakeysquadron@chimpage.com (I at least need to know the game has finished).
A special tournament page will be created, showing the week's fixtures, results and the league table. This will be accessible from the Squadron page before the tournament properly starts (although I might use the Squadron Forum).
After week 7, a time limit will be set for the remaining games to be finished (likely to be 2-4 weeks). Any games not completed by that point will have the result taken from whoever is winning at that time. Everyone should play fast then !
Code of Conduct
Team points will be deducted for the following dishonourable behaviour:
6 points deducted – a pilot flies a plane on both sides during a match (unlikely!)
3 points deducted – “tactical communication” – talking between teams is acceptable, but not regarding tactics or movements. Complemntary comments such as “good move” are allowed, but not comments such as “Help” or “Go right”. The ONLY tactical comments that can be made are on turn one and these must either be the following:
a) “Stick together”/”Stay Close” b) “Pick your own targets”
This is to make a small allowance for historical hand signals from the squadron leader.
1 point deducted – using abusive language in the chat area of the game
Any other dishonourable behaviour should be reported to myself, and this will then be put to a panel of 3 “neutral” squadron leaders not taking part in the game in order to decide on a suitable punishment. The maximum punishment the panel can decide upon is a deduction of 6 points per “offence”.
THANKS to imdog in particular for his input.
