Hello Paolo. I'm not certain if I did understand you right, but what you're speaking about are not opponents but distances in hexes. You can select medium or long bursts to opponents in distances 0, 1, 2, and 3 that remember are the distances you can fire at. Also you can check the NEW modified table of shooting modifiers under the list of planes on the left.
You are right, it is that this morning I was in a hurry to go to attend to a Gaming Convention in downtown Rome, so I had a fast look in the only scenario in which I was active, and It was a scenario in which there were four opponents while on my side we are six. I even had no chance to shoot on an enemy on next turn, so I was really surpriced. It is to be said that I would have made something to give more evidence to the fact that the tale was Distance related. But this is a my opinion.
Also a re-read of this side of the rules might help considering it is a real nice feature here and that using long bursts is "dangerous" as your gunnery might be jammed and to recover your ability to fire you will need some things to do (and some luck with dies too hehehe)
It is more than ten years that I don't have the chance use a long burst in Blue Max, and in FtoF Blue Max I used long burst only at the range of one hex, so I didn't relate it to distance.
The opponent you fire at is something that it is yet (I suppose) chosen by the game's engine and not by any of us.
If you select one target and this maouvers to stay out of your field of fire while another enters it, would you give up to shoot to this second plane? No, nor it was in the rules. Let's leave this "future option" in the fields of dreams.
Hope this helps, Wishgamer
Yeah, it helps.
