The implementation is quite simple: you'll have a little table in the "select your move" window in which you'll have to specify which burst to use for each distance. So you can tell the game to fire a long burst only at distance 1 or at distance 0, 1 and 3.
If you have the observer, you have two tables, to specify the burst length independently for pilot and observer.
Jamming will be implemented as in the original game, and you'll see jammed status in the place reserved for special damage (in fact this is treated as a special damage).

What about ammunition limitations/reloading for lewis guns?
Also, will distance be the only basis for selecting burst length? I think other factors such as fired at last turn and tailing (current turn and next turn too) should be considered also, if possible. What about using combat table value of all modifiers except burst length as the criterion instead? For example, if combat table is 0 or less = short burst, if between 1 and 6 = medium burst, and if 7 or more = long burst.
Another question, will planes with 2 guns check for each gun separately, so that 1 might jam and the other not, or just one roll for both guns?
