The thing is, it is fun shooting a bunch of pirates running around, and even one vs one it is not easy. If it was set up as a league, then everyone gets a chance to play the French and some will do better than others, with captures, escapes, (when ships are so far away that combat stops) etc. there might even be someone who could get the pirates to work together well!
You can always make your own and set up challenge / password games.
I don't understand. Make my own league?
Unbalanced scenarios will not get added to the league system. There are few of those 4 vs 1 scenarios in Blue Max that never get added.
In anything but Advanced rules, the French will win every time as long as the French ships remain at standoff distances. Pirates can try all they want to close in but they usually end up loosing too much riggings to keep the speed up. Once a while you have a greedy French ship decided to get up close and personal with the pirates and the outcome may be different if the pirates can encircled and fouled up the French ship. Even then it (the entrapment) usually only work when the pirates are controlled by ONE (1) player. Most hardcore WSIM players are not too interested in pirates scenarios in general, especially the ones here in the main site.
In Advanced rules: full sail can increase the close rates of the pirate ships. A sudden wind direction change will turn the table on the French very quickly.
Look at this game: http://www.youplay.it/play/ws_GameMove.asp?GameID=716871 Both French players are very experienced. Derek is the top WSIM player on the site. If they keep running, there will be little the pirates can do.
On the other hand you in this game http://www.youplay.it/play/ws_GameMove.asp?GameID=721049 decides to play with the pirates up close. You will be trapped soon.
Make your own league: Ask on this forum whether there are anyone interested in joining a Pirate league. State which scenario you are planning to use. Are all the pirate ships controlled by 1 person or not? Standard or Basic? Then you can make up a series of passworded games and keep track of the game numbers. Problem with Challenge games is the creator must be one of the players in the challenge games he set up.
Others have done numerous Blue Max campaigns and championships on this site using similar manual ways.
