There are some great thoughts under the tactical advice section, but I wonder if there other guidelines that could be considered in some scenarios?

The immediate one that brought this to mind was the Snipe vs 3 Pfalz DIII, but it also works for the 3 Nieups against the Halby etc. What are the best ways to fly as a team?

Obviously, tail your teammates is an easy and obvious one.

Potentially, “don’t get shot at” is less useful for the team. Going head to head, inflicting 3 Reds and being shot down significantly increases the chances for the other two team mates, especially if you knock out the singleton’s engine.

But, better yet may be to only take shots offered at a distance. This is less likely to get you shot down, but does less damage to the enemy. However, shots from distance may cause a critical hit (fabric tears, engine damaged etc), slowly making it easier to get the kill later.

Finally for the moment, a key is to ensure you don’t get in the way of a team-mates shot. I haven’t figured out a clear way to do this, but sometimes it ought to just be common sense to make sure you cannot put yourself between the enemy and your wingman’s guns.

Unfortunately I missed the Wing Man tourney, but would love to try that if anyone feels like organising it again…

Anyway, thanks for reading and thoughts appreciated

Flyng against the Sopwith Snipe (SS) you simply have to cover your wingmates, always. Think which is the most likely target of the SS next turn and then try cover him. Better if you do not expose yourself too much in the process.

And head to head [on almost equal combat tables] are obviously good in these pidgeon scenarios, but a smart SS pilot will avoid them at all cost.

Augh, the wise man spoke
