Not sure if this has been suggested before (probably!), but...

When you have the choice of two enemies to shoot at, the current system picks randomly. I entirely get that and wouldn't want to slow things down further by asking each pilot who they want to target...

BUT...
I've just had an equal combat value against two planes in the same hex, one head-to-head and one where I'm right on his tail. There is no deflection in either case.
What i would love to have done is fire at the plane I now find myself tailing, rather than the one whose engine I'm facing. Through random chance, I've fired at the plane facing me though.

To fire at a plane I'm tailing is probably a preferred default (coz if I tail, i can maybe get a second shot at him next), and should be a relatively easy piece of coding? (if 'tail' = yes then discount the other target, or something)

Could it be done?
Thank you for listening
tomski

I don't think the current system is totally random; I believe, based on situations I recall, that the computer picks the best shot, with target tailed, followed by head-on shots as a tie-breakers. If it's not a tailed target or head-on shot and the odds are the same, then I think the computer randomly picks, as it does if facing multiple head-on shots of equal odds.
