You can capture a ship that has surrendered by anything other than striking, but there's a bug with the scoring. It looks like the same thing that happened here:

So what should the scoring be? You already get points for striking the ship. Capturing is double. Should capturing a struck ship give you double or triple the point value?

Never more than double. But be careful because "struck" is a specific type of surrender where the hull is so badly damaged the ship is in danger of sinking so it withdraws from the battle. It's the usual surrender type. Neither side can board (or leave) a ship that has struck her colors.

It IS possible to capture a ship that has surrendered by immobility (raked with no rigging), no crew, and no guns. That's why I often try force a striking when a ship of mine is in trouble (turn it for a rake) so it can't be captured and/or transfer some of the crew to another ship (because they're stuck on the ship after she strikes).

Well, right now the coding seems to be awarding triple points. First the basic points for surrendering and then double points for the capture. I'll have to keep that in mind in the future.
