The members of the Troll Squadron participated in a tournament last December/January, with great success. Six teams of two pilots competed against each other for bragging rights in a series of 2x2 missions. Here is a short summary of the tournament:
2x2 tournament, all missions using the Yankee Doodle Comes to Town Scenario, advanced rules, Medium size board. Each team plays each of the other teams twice, each team playing the Germans once and the Allies once. That resulted in a total of 30 games being created, with each team playing in a total of ten games.
Rules: The team with the last plane(s) on the board at the end of the game is declared the winner. If the game is ended with plane(s) from each team still on the board, i.e. all planes gliding, the team with more planes on the board at game end is declared the winner. If each team has an equal number of planes on the board at game end, then the team with the pilot with the most points and that pilot is still on the board is declared the winner. Never had to go beyond that contingency.
At the completion of the 30 games, the team that won the most games was declared the overall winner! The team that ended up winning the the first tournament won 7 out of 10 matches, with two teams finishing with 6 wins. The tiebreaker, if two teams finished with the same number of wins, would have been kill differential (10 kills and five deaths (+5) is the equivalent of 9 kills and four deaths (+5)). Second tiebreaker is average points for each team as a whole.
Of interest, the team that averaged the "most points" did not win, nor did the team with the pilot who averaged the most points.
Now, after a few months of recovery, the Troll Squadron has decided to start another tournament and has also decided to "expand" the scope of the tournament. The Rules remain the same, but now it will be teams of 3 pilots flying in the 6 person Yankee Doodle mission. The Troll Squadron will fill out 3 teams of three pilots, but we need another 3 teams of three pilots to fill out the tournament.
As such, I will start taking applications from interested teams who desire to shoot down the members of the Troll Squadron and to proclaim their superiority over those lame pilots!
Applications need to be made by Friday, August 12, 2005. Reply posts in the Forum are acceptable, but I would prefer direct emails. All applications must include the names of all three pilots. All three pilots must agree to fly in all 10 games that they are assigned to. Once accepted, I will need email addresses for at least one pilot for each of the three new teams, preferably email addresses for all three pilots in each new team.
Any interest? If more information is requested, I can send by email the summary documentation that I assembled subsequent to the first tournament, with game numbers, etc., which information will aid in understanding how a winner for each game was determined.
