Subject: Stop software patents...

I've seen the banner showing up here...

Just to say that I'm FOR software patents as currently applied in the European Patent Office: new, inventive, industrial application and technical effect.

The US-style software patent will never come to Europe, this is political bullshit from people who do not know the difference between the USPTO and the EPO practice, or between copyright and patents.

Just point me to software related european patents that have unduelly been granted: http://www.espacenet.com/

Nobody knows that the EPO has already been examining software related patents for years, without any complain from the industry or the public...

And Youplay.it has nothing to fear from patents, read the European Patent Convention, Art. 52(2)(a). Are excluded from patentability: schemes, rules and methods for performing mental acts, playing games or doing business, and programs for computers;

So whatever you think about patents, be aware that (among other european leading company) Philips, Siemens, Nokia, Ericsson, France Telecom (Orange), etc., are providing you telecom and internet standards thanks to the system. Do you really think all of this would exist as it is now only based on open source and freeware , you
